Purpose |
It is the purpose of the drill team to:
Promote and uphold school spirit.
Represent LOH to the highest degree.
Set an example of good behavior at all times at school and off campus,
whether or not in uniform.
Promote friendship with schools with which we compete, perform, or attend
camp.
Promote friendship between members of the squad. |
|
REQUIREMENTS |
Eaglettes must take priority over all other extracurricular activities,
including jobs, from August through February.
You must be available to attend camp usually the first week of June during
the summer.
Anyone selected for Eaglette squad may participate in dance only. You
will not be allowed to participate in any other sport (ex. Track,
softball, basketball).
For each semester, members must maintain a grade point average of 2.0.
Not fulfilling this requirement first semester means ineligibility for
second semester.
Members must also maintain good attendance and class performance during
the time on the squad and for auditions.
Being on the dance squad one year in no way guarantees placement on the
squad for the following year. Every girl must go through the same
audition/selection process each spring. In addition to ability, each
girl’s cooperation, effort, attitude, and getting along with other squad
members from the previous year will be considered. |
|
CONDUCT |
By accepting the privilege/honor of wearing a LOH Eaglette
uniform, a girl accepts the fact that her actions are more prominent than
those not associated with such an activity.
Because of this prominence and because
members represent the school, exemplary behavior is MANDATORY AT ALL
TIMES, ANYWHERE IN THE COMMUNITY OF LIVE OAK HIGH SCHOOL, AND AT ALL
FUNCTIONS WHERE GIRLS ARE RECOGNIZED AS LOH EAGLETTES.
Proper appearance is expected at all times, with clothing appropriate to
the occasion.
Members must not use foul language at practice, in school, at games, camp,
etc.
Excessive public displays of affection are NEVER considered appropriate
and will not be tolerated especially while in uniform, at games, or in
school.
All rules and regulations imposed on any Live Oak student will be imposed
on dance team members. Members are responsible for knowing and following
all the rules. By following school rules, no Eaglette should be involved
with detention. Detention will result in demerits and being benched from
a performance(s) as determined by the sponsors.
A demerit system to deal with minor infractions – tardiness, missing
uniform items, etc. will be used for disciplinary purposes. It is our
wish that no squad member would ever face being benched, dismissed, or
suspended, SO FOLLOW THE RULES.
Because all situations may not be foreseen and thus outlined here, each
will be dealt with in a manner decided upon by the sponsors with
assistance from the administration if deemed necessary. Every attempt
will be made to discipline fairly and equally, and to make consequences of
actions known ahead of time. Severity of the offense or repeated offenses
may dictate harsher action.
Poor conduct/behavior under any of the above circumstances could result in
warnings, demerits, plus suspension/removal from the squad. Inappropriate
behaviors not only reflect on the individual, but the image of the entire
squad. The good of the squad always comes before any one individual. No
one is irreplaceable or indispensable. |
|
LEARNING/TEACHING ROUTINES |
Members are expected to be attentive and
cooperative when learning routines. Repeated disruptions, especially
during the same practice, will result in warnings, demerits, and possible
removal from that performance. Continued problems may dictate harsher
action. All members are urged to help choreograph routines. Song/styles
selected should be done early to avoid delays and repeated ideas.
Approval of song/styles must be obtained ahead of time from the sponsors.
Constructive criticism/suggestions given in a polite manner are welcomed.
Complaining and/or rudeness to the teacher of the routine is a disruption
carrying demerits.
The person in charge of the routine should have it completely ready one
week before it is scheduled to be taught, in case we have extra time to
start, or in case the sponsor asks to see it. The entire routine should
be worked out, including placement of people and formations so no time is
wasted.
The person in charge of the routine is responsible for having the music
taped on the beginning of the tape at all practices and a backup. The
tape should have proper cuts made, and no breaks in the music due to
careless over-recording. |
|
PRACTICES |
Mandatory after-school practices, usually four per week,
will be established during the performing months (September – February).
Times will be announced each week; however, you should not have any
conflicting activities before 5:00. Advisers and captains may choose to
have night practices during basketball season for use of the gym.
Additional practices will be scheduled as
needed, especially to start each season, and when many performances are
close together.
Missing a scheduled practice the day of or before a game will result in
the individual not performing for the game and receiving demerits (no
demerits with a valid doctor’s excuse).
Any absence from practice must be reported directly to a sponsor. Report
intended absence BEFORE leaving campus. Failure to report your absence
may result in demerits/removal from the event.
Missing an added-on practice at which major routine changes are made, may
result in not performing for that event if it is too close to that
performance.
Missing part of a practice for a test or other approved academic reason
will carry no penalty, but the member must get PRIOR approval and make up
what is missed.
Missing part of practice for another club or meeting will be allowed IF
PRIOR NOTICE IS GIVEN at least one day before.
Dance shoes, white socks, and matching outfits must be worn to practice.
Practices begin at 2:50 p.m. – You should be dressed and ready to begin
by this time. Tardiness is unacceptable.
Only 3 unexcused absences will be allowed (any absence other than a
doctor’s excuse is considered unexcused). After the 4th
absence, you will be dismissed from the squad (this also includes absences
from performances).
If you miss a practice, you will be given laps to run (# to be determined
by the sponsor) other than your regular exercise.
Members must NOT LEAVE PRACTICE EARLY unless given PRIOR approval. Do not
schedule work too early.
Members must not schedule routine dental, doctor, or other appointments
during school hours on game days, and must be avoided for final practices
before performing.
There may be weekly inter-squad tryouts. These tryouts will consist of
any routine that is to be performed.
Your being cut during inter-squad tryouts will result in your being
benched for that game or performance. If you are cut 3 performances (this
includes games and pep rallies) you will be dismissed from the squad. |
|
GAMES |
You must be at all football games 1 hour
prior to the start of the game, dressed and ready to dance (30 minutes for
basketball). You must report to the band room for football games.
Eaglettes march to the stadium with the band.
There is no talking with friends during the game.
There is to be no physical contact (including kissing, hugging, or holding
hand) when in uniform.
Absolutely no chewing gum during the game. |
|
HALF-TIME |
After the half-time performance, you will
be dismissed for a portion of the 3rd quarter. You must be in
the stands, ready to perform when there are 2 minutes left in the 3rd
quarter.
REMEMBER, YOU ARE NOT ONLY REPRESENTING YOURSELF,
BUT YOUR SQUAD, YOUR SCHOOL, AND YOUR SPONSORS. |
|
UNIFORM GUIDELINES |
When dressed out, there is to be no smoking, drinking, or
physical contact with anyone.
Arrive to the game dressed out in the correct
game attire- including bow, shoes, socks, pompoms, and uniform.
No colored nail polish or jewelry.
You will not be allowed to wear any type of earring/body ring while you
are participating in dance related activities – practice/games/etc. |
